Characteristics of metallic magnets
A permanent magnet is an object capable of maintaining an induction in an empty space, possibly zero, in the presence of adverse conditions (other sources of induction, temperature, shock, radiation, relaxation), including its own demagnetising field in an open circuit. More generally, it is a ferromagnetic body which, once magnetised, retains a certain magnetic state, the most sensitive effect of which is to attract a piece of iron.
Unlike electromagnets, the magnetic power of the permanent magnet does not rely on electric current. They have a magnetic north and south pole at the ends of which the magnetic field lines align.
